Pass Plus

Pass Plus — drive with more confidence

Pass Plus is a practical training course you can take after passing your driving test. It covers real-world driving situations — motorways, night driving, rural roads — and can reduce your car insurance premium. At iDrive Auto, our DVSA-approved instructors deliver Pass Plus across Richmond, Twickenham, Kingston and the surrounding areas of South West London, helping newly-qualified drivers build the confidence and experience your test alone doesn't always cover.

What's included

Who is Pass Plus for?

Pass Plus is designed for drivers who have recently passed their test and want extra, structured experience before facing situations the test doesn't always cover in depth — motorway driving, night-time journeys, and unfamiliar rural or dual carriageway roads. It's a popular choice for newly-qualified drivers who feel confident on familiar routes but less sure venturing further afield, and for anyone hoping to lower their car insurance costs in their first year of driving. There's no minimum waiting period, so you can start straight after passing while your skills are still fresh.

Pricing

Pass Plus is charged at our standard hourly lesson rate, with no separate course fee or hidden extras.

The DVSA sets a minimum of six hours for a full Pass Plus course — one hour per module — so most pupils complete the course for around £300 in total. Some modules, particularly motorway and night driving, may take a little longer depending on your confidence and local conditions, and your instructor will always be upfront about that before you book.

How the sessions are structured

Each of the six Pass Plus modules is typically covered in its own one-hour session, though your instructor can combine or extend sessions depending on your schedule and how quickly you settle into each scenario. Sessions are usually booked flexibly rather than as one long block, so you can fit town driving and all-weather practice around work or study, and save night driving and motorway modules for when conditions and daylight allow. There's no exam at the end — your instructor simply confirms you've met the standard for each module as you go, and issues your Pass Plus certificate once all six are complete.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does Pass Plus cover?

Pass Plus is made up of six modules: town driving, all-weather driving, out-of-town roads, night driving, dual carriageways and motorway driving. Each module builds on skills you already have from your test, applying them to situations you may not have driven in yet.

Do I have to take a test at the end?

No. Unlike your practical test, Pass Plus has no pass/fail exam. Your instructor assesses your progress throughout each module and signs off your course once they're confident you're driving safely and competently in that scenario.

Will Pass Plus reduce my insurance?

Many major UK insurers offer a discount to newly-qualified drivers who complete Pass Plus, though the size of the discount varies by provider. It's worth checking with your own insurer before booking to see how much you could save.

How soon after passing my test can I start?

You can book Pass Plus as soon as you've passed your practical test — there's no minimum waiting period. Many of our pupils book it in the weeks immediately after passing, while their driving skills and confidence are still fresh.
